‘Mayhem’ the Ref: No bad calls with Allstate

ED’S NOTE: This post reflects my interest in advertising as a marketing student. No agencies or products are endorsed. The opinions expressed here are mine and in no way reflect the opinions of my employers.

UPDATE 11-01-2011: “Go, State!” — Mayhem goes streaking

Even after a year, the hits keep coming. Allstate (NASDAQ: ALL) tries for another touchdown with a new Mayhem ad, just in time for the NFL season.

I’m a ref being chased out of town after the worst game of my career.
~ Mayhem the Ref

The new ad was posted on Facebook on Sept 7: Within 35 minutes, it had more than 2,000 likes. Five hours later, it had 4,379 likes and 290 comments. At the time of this writing, the Facebook post has 5,189 likes and 343 comments.

From the Facebook comments:

Love the commercials but Allstate sucks!!!!!!!!!! They can kiss my ass!!!!!!!!!!!!!
~ Chasity,
North Carolina

Wonder if Chasity meant to spell her name Chastity? Oh, well, no matter.

On YouTube, the clip has 6,343 views. It had 305 yesterday, shortly after the Facebook posting. It has a timestamp of Sept. 1, 2011, but when I was notified Sept. 1 that a new video had been posted, I was not able to access it: “This video is private.” The 31-second clip must not have been ready for prime time.
